LEVERSTOCK Green started their MSSML Division One campaign with a 3-1 home win over Hillingdon Borough.
Levy raced into a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes thanks to goals from Lee Stobbs and Adam Hallissey, before Jordan Willis pulled a goal back for Hillingdon in first half stoppage time.
The visitors rallied for an equaliser after the interval, but Lewis Pritchard made sure of all three points for Green with a late third.
It was the away team who had started the brightest of the two sides, but Levy took the lead after 14 minutes courtesy of an exquisite chip from Stobbs.
And the Green advantage was doubled six minutes later as Craig Preston’s header across goal was nodded home by Hallissey.
Pritchard had chances to extend Levy’s lead towards the end of the first half but it was Hillingdon who scored next as Willis’ effort squirmed home.
The away side came out fighting in the second half, but Green’s defence stood firm, and it was Steve Heath’s side who secured all three points as Pritchard slotted home the rebound from Glenn Thompson’s effort.
“We were absolutely delighted with the win,” said Heath. “They had a lot of the play, but we were defensively very strong.
“The back four were the catalyst for the victory.”
