Leverstock Green 2 Biggleswade United 1
LEVERSTOCK Green continued their incredible start to the MSSML Premier Division season – making it nine wins out of nine with victory over Biggleswade.
Despite a depleted front line, goals from Adam Hallissey and Paul Insley set the team on the way, and Green weathered a second-half scare to claim the points.
The win capped off a fine day for Levy, after the club picked up the league’s Team of the Month accolade and Steve Heath was named Manager of the Month.
After an end-to-end opening few minutes, Levy opened the scoring courtesy of Hallissey.
The side were awarded a free-kick out on the right and captain Lee Bircham played a deep ball to the far post where Steve Hatch headed back across goal for Hallissey to drive home.
And it did not take the hosts long to double their advantage as Insley bagged the second from Jon Davies’ square ball at a corner.
Two up after 12 minutes and playing some of the best attacking football this season, Levy looked to put the game to bed, and Davies and Insley both came close to netting the third.
But with a 2-0 cushion at the interval, Green appeared to take their foot off the gas in the second half, and were punished as Stuart Childs halved the deficit.
The visitors pressed for an equaliser as the half progressed, but Carl Tasker stood firm in the Green goal to secure the points.
“It was a bit of a strange one,” said Green boss Heath. “We were outstanding in the first half and some of the passing was the best I’ve seen since I’ve been here.
“But we were sloppy in the second half. I think some of the boys just got a bit carried away.”
