TRING Atletic’s pre-season schedule began with defeat as Julian Robinson’s side went down 2-0 to Slough Town.
Visitors Slough had already played four pre-season fixtures this campaign, and their greater sharpness told as they struck twice late on in the match to earn the win.
Steve Sinclair put Town ahead after 68 minutes and Charlie Mpi added a second 11 minutes later.
Despite the defeat, though, Athletic can take plenty of positives from the game – Robinson’s first at the helm.
Slough play one division above Tring in the football pyramid, and Athletic used the game to introduce six young players to the side.
After a shaky start, Tring started to find their feet in the match and promising youngster Stewart King almost found a breakthrough with a lobbed effort.
The teams went in level at half-time, but the second half was a more open affair, and Slough took advantage to go 2-0 ahead.
Tring’s new-look side rallied late on, but Andy Mullins and Connor Waite both squandered good opportunities to bag their side a consolation.
