Tring Athletic

Harefield United 0 Tring Athletic 2

ATHLETIC stunned the Hares with two early goals and that was enough to secure all three points for Julian Robinson’s team.

Sam Mitchell and Tony Fields got the goals for Tring in a dominant performance from the away side.

Athletic got into their stride from the kick off and, within a minute, Stewart King had got round the back of the Hare’s defence and pulled the ball back to Mitchell who sliced his effort wide.

But Mitchell made amends in the sixth minute, scoring from an acute angle after home keeper Ben Goode failed to keep hold of the ball

United tried to hit back but were struggling to test Tring Keeper Mike Underwood, while King was proving difficult to handle for the defence at the other end.

With Athletic looking dangerous, it came as no surprise to see them double their advantage in the 11th minute, with King acting as the catalyst.

After good build-up play, King’s shot produced a fine save from Goode, but the keeper could do nothing to prevent Fields from following up and heading the ball home to make the score 2-0.

Athletic were revelling in the space given to them and created enough chances to have buried the home side.

Mitchell came closest to adding to the Tring tally as his effort came back off the bar, but with no further goals, the score remained 2-0 at half-time.

Athletic nearly made a dream start to the second half when, after only two minutes, Andy Humphreys seized on a poor back pass – but his shot hit the keeper before bouncing back off the bar.

To Harefield’s credit, they responded well and forced Tring onto the back foot, but the combination of Underwood and the Tring back four were confidently repelling anything which came their way.

Both teams produced some decent chances as the match progressed, but the score remained 2-0 and Tring ran out deserved victors.

The win leaves Athletic in fifth place in the MSSML Premier Division table, just four points adrift of second-placed Levy Green, with two games in hand over their Dacorum rivals.
