Tring Athletic have been eliminated from the FA Vase after losing out to Middlesex County Football League side FC Romania.

Three goals from FC Romania’s leading goal scorer Sergiu Pitaru did the damage, but Athletic were disappointing and the exertions of two tough games in the FA Cup against Ashford Town looked to have taken their toll.

Athletic had the best of the possession in the early stages, with Connor Smith seeing his shot saved and the follow-up from Tony Fields flying wide.

It was FC Romania, however, who broke the deadlock against the run of play. A long ball out of defence found Pitaru, and he ran through to open the scoring in the 25th minute.

Matt Jarvis was unlucky not to level the scores before half-time as he saw his header deflected onto the bar, but Athletic did bag an equaliser within two minutes of the restart.

Patient build-up saw Fields feed the ball to Andy Humphreys, and he bent the ball around keeper Ursachi.

Athletic introduced Connor Waite and Sam Joliffe from the bench, but it was FC Romania who regained the lead as Pitaru scored his second goal of the game in the 80th minute.

Athletic pushed forward for an equaliser, but lacked penetration, and Pitaru wrapped up the win for FC Romania in the last minute as he completed his hat-trick.
