Levy Green Ladies Whites 3 St Martins 2
After last week’s humbling defeat in the league, Leverstock Green Ladies Whites got their revenge over St Martins in the League Cup first round.
Levy started the match brightly and got off to a flying start when Tasha Sherriff pounced on a defensive error to latch on to a loose ball and fire into the roof of the net from a tight angle after just two minutes.
St Martins are a strong side, though, and were back on level terms after 26 minutes when Levy keeper Emma Wiseman was beaten by a deflected shot from a corner.
The second half began with Levy kicking down the slope and, after some early pressure, they were awarded a free-kick for handball.
Cally Salter (pictured) duly stepped up to smash a fierce drive into the top right corner from 20 yards to give her side a 2-1 lead.
The advantage was short-lived, however, as a deflected shot looped over replacement keeper Chloe Williams for the equaliser.
Levy dug deep and fought for every ball and, with 69 minutes on the clock, the pressure told.
Ellen Salter delivered the ball into the box from a corner and Cally Salter pounced on indecision in the penalty area to fire into the roof of the net from close range to put her side through to the next round.
