Woodhall Wanderers U18 2 Bovingdon 1
Woodhall Wanderers saw off Bovingdon in the U18 Challenge Cup final to complete the West Herts League cup double.
Having already won the Senior Cup a week previously, Wanderers showed few signs of fatigue as they edged past Bovingdon 2-1 in a hard-fought encounter.
A cagey first half saw the scores locked at 0-0, before Bovingdon were rocked by the substitution of influential skipper Harry Woods who was taken to hospital with a neck injury.
Woodhall began to assert themselves on the game and eventually made the breakthrough after 65 minutes.
Wanderers were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the Bovingdon penalty area, and set-piece specialist Luke Watson stepped up to curl the ball home.
Clearly buoyed by the goal, Wanderers pressed for a second and with 10 minutes to go, striker Jason Potts was brought down in the area.
The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Watson calmly stroked the resulting penalty kick low to the right of the Bovingdon keeper to give his side a 2-0 lead.
Bovingdon pulled a goal back late on, but by then the damage had already been done and it was Wanderers who lifted the trophy.
