Berkhamsted Reserves got off to a winning start in the Suburban Shield and went straight to the top of Group D thanks to a 4-2 win over Northwood Reserves at Broadwater last night.

Northwood were 1-0 up at the interval but the half-time introduction of Jordan Aikman changed the game.

He equalised early in the second half before Ashley Morrisey put Berko in front with a fine shot.

However, Northwood soon levelled and Berko keeper Tom Calverley had to produce some good saves to keep it that way.

It was Berko who were to run out winners, though, as Kieron Turner and Aikman scored to give the young Berko side the points.

All four of the Comrades’ goals came from teenagers.

Next up, Corinthian Casuals Reserves visit Broadwater in the Suburban Challenge Cup on Saturday.

A busy week is rounded off with a trip to Leighton Reserves next Wednesday for a league game.

Meanwhile, the Berko U18 side have been knocked out of the Colwyn Cup after losing 3-2 to Luton Town last night, despite putting in a good performance.

Jay Caines and George Carberry got the Berko goals.

The sides could meet again in the Brian Hitchings Cup, with Berko away to the winners of the Brimsdown and Luton Town tie on a date to be rearranged.
