A member of Dacorum & Tring AC Road Runners is in the final stretch of training for the 2014 Virgin London Marathon – the fourth of her personal Five Races in Five Months challenge.
Kirsty Russell is raising money for Sands – a stillbirth and neonatal death charity that provides support for bereaved parents and their families.
Kirsty has been running marathons for three years now – each time with a personal fundraising goal. Her decision to run for Sands this year was taken after her best friend and her husband lost their baby, Molly, shortly after she was born last June.
Kirsty’s challenge began in January with the Disney Marathon, a 26.2 mile jaunt across all four Disney Parks in Florida. She said it was by far the most enjoyable marathon she’d ever done – no doubt helped by the chance to take a ride on the Everest rollercoaster at the half way point.
It took her 5 hours and 36 minutes to complete the run as she kept stopping to take photos with Disney characters along the route
After her efforts in Orlando, Kirsty came back home to complete the Watford Half Marathon in February, followed by the Silverstone Half Marathon earlier this month, which she finished in a new PB of 2:06:30 – nearly four minutes faster than her previous best time.
She says she can’t wait to run in London next month, having won a place to take part after three years of failing in the ballot.
The final leg of her Five in Five challenge will take her back to London in May for the BUPA London 10,000, which winds through central London to finish in St James’ Park.
