ROY Barden was the hero for Ivinghoe Golf Club as his play-off victory in the Hillman Trophy Plate set up a plum tie in the next round.
With the scores between Ivinghoe and opponents Maidenhead Golf Club tied at 3.5-3.5 after seven matches, it was left to Barden to claim the win and set up a clash with the prestigious Stoke Park Golf Club.
Playing against Maidenhead’s team captain Tim Osbourne, Barden had fought back from three down after the front nine holes to level the match on the 18th.
And the Ivinghoe man completed the remarkable turnaround with victory on the first hole of the play-off.
Barden’s team-mates Brian Haworth and Russell Shardlow also did their bit, winning 5 and 4 and 3 and 2 in their games, respectively.
The Ivinghoe team - Barden, Haworth, Shardlow, Trevor Nurden, Judah Gayle, Paul Black and Nigel Smethers - are now turning their collective attention towards the Stoke Park clash, billed by Haworth as a David v Goliath encounter.
