YOUNGSTERS from Berkhamsted Sports Centre Swimming club ended the year with a bang as they impressed once again to cap off a fine campaign.
The swimmers took part in the Maxwell Swimming Club meet at Aquavale in Aylesbury, and showed grit, determination and talent in abundance to come away with a host of personal best times, speeding tickets, medals, county qualifying times and club best times.
Club coach Geoff Wood said: “The year has been an awesome one for the club with 25 per cent of the swimmers currently having qualified for next year’s County Championships.
“As well as that, the junior team has been promoted to Division One of the Herts Peanuts League and, in the first effort at the National Arena League, third place in London Division Three augurs well for a big push for promotion in 2012.”
Jordan Northwood was on superb form at Aquavale, leading the way in terms of county qualifying times with three – in the 200m backstroke, the 200m breaststroke and the 100m IM.
Mason Brand also bagged a CQT – in the 200m backstroke – with Christian Nel (50m breaststroke), Abbie Brown (200m breaststroke) and Ellen Northwood (100 IM) doing the same.
Nel was the star of the show when it came to club bests as he came away with four, while Northwood clocked one of his own.
The majority of the club’s swimmers picked up personal bests on the night, and these went to Katie Brown, Hamish MacCaig, Nel, Emily Hannaby, Abbie Brown, Caitlin Kelley, Lidia Niedertubessing-Lopez, Adam Hawkswood, Elliot Reynolds, Hannah Coulson, Abi Hurst, Amy Stoker, Mason Brand, Jordan Northwood, Harriet Horwood-Jones, Ellen Northwood, Eddie Duncombe, Abbie Stier, Holly Hannaby and Jess Potts.
Gold medals were claimed by Tom Weston (2), Coulson, MacCaig (2), Jordan Northwood (2), Stoker, Brand (2) and Nel, while MacCaig (4), Katie Brown (2), Ollie Hurst (3), Hannaby, Weston (4), Niedertubessing-Lopez, Ellen Northwood and Nel all took home silvers.
Bronzes, meanwhile, were won by Reynolds, Coulson, Ellen Northwood, Emily Kiernan (2), Ollie Hurst, Weston and Katie Brown.
The BSCSC swimmers are straight back into action at the start of 2012 as they look to retain their Division One status after their first taste of the division last season.
