London Blitz American Football Club are raising money to make their dreams of competing in a Champions League tournament a reality.
The team need help to cover the costs of a bus for 50 of their players and coaches to travel 1,500 miles across Europe so they can take part in their first Champions League ‘Final Four’ tournament in Serbia.
Club chairman Ed Morgan, from Kings Langley, is calling on local supporters to help them raise £10,000 which will allow them to compete with some of the best American Football teams in the continent.
Ed, 32, has set up a GoFundMe fundraising page, which has already raised £5,625 in 27 days but the club is looking to hit the £10k target before the tournament starts on July 25.
The team have been competing in European competition for the last six years and this year they were delighted to win through to their first Champions League Final Four tournament.
Ed said:” We thought wins against Spain and France’s top teams had got us through to the final tournament somewhere in Western Europe until the finals were awarded to Belgrade.
“As an amateur team, our players and coaches bear all the costs of competition and the Eastern bloc has really got us stumped – this is where we need the help our friends, family and supporters!
“We won’t be travelling flash harry style and all our players and coaches will be still be paying but we need help to cover the costs of our bus as we traipse 1,500 miles across Europe.
“When we set up our GoFundMe page, we were hoping our friends and family would be keen to support but it’s so touching to see our community supporting us as well,” added Ed. “We’d like to thank everyone who has so generously donated so far and hope we can make the final target.”
