TRING Rugby Club’s U7 Lions travelled to Bishop’s Stortford and put in an unbeaten display to bring home the club’s first silverware of the season.

Competing in the Bishop’s Stortford Elite Festival, the Tring squad beat some of Hertfordshire’s leading teams as they took the cup in impressive style.

First up, the Lions saw off Old Albanians 4-3, before edging out Welwyn 7-6. They then beat Colchester 4-3 and thrashed hosts Bishop’s Stortford 5-2 to set up a clash against Letchworth in the final of the competition.

Letchworth took the lead, but Tring hit back courtesy of a Luke Evans try. Ben Kearney put in some fine work for the Lions as he took three tags, but again Letchworth showed resilience and went over to regain the lead.

Not to be outdone, though, Tring stuck to their task in determined fashion and drew level through Ollie Benton.

With the momentum now in their favour, the Lions could sense victory and secured a 5-3 win courtesy of Ollie Hemlin, Oakley Taylor and Benton.

U7 head coach Mike Kearney said: “High energy, total concentration and solid teamwork paid off with victories against Hertfordshire’s leading teams. Well done everyone!”
