Darts players will be throwing £212.10 into a £1.3m project to install new facilities at a school for the children with severe learning difficulties.

The 16 sportsmen raised the money by holding a tournament at The Old Bell in Hemel Hempstead High Street.

Runner-up Paul Dashwood said: “The final was contested with some great darts by both players Roy Lancashire Jnr and myself in a thrilling competition with Roy winning 3-1.”

The £212.10 was raised through charging an entrance fee and holding a raffle at the Old Town watering hole during the event on Easter Monday.

It will help pay for a new sports hall and hydrotherapy pool for the pupils of Woodfield School in Leverstock Green.

Mr Dashwood and the pub thanked drinkers who were there, everyone who played in the tournament and The Trophy Centre in Queens Square, Adeyfield, for donating the winner’s prize.
