Berkhamsted Lawn Tennis and Squash Rackets Club has added to its list of champions with three individual victories at the East Regional Closed Competition.

Hot-on-the-heels of Angus Gillams’ golden display at the British Junior Championships, Berkhamsted trio Laurence Green, Grace Gear and Hasnaat Farooqi all won gold in their individual age groups at the regional event in Ipswich.

In total, 116 juniors from all six east region counties attended the event – contributing to an exciting and action-packed weekend.

Green won the boys’ U17 event, defeating Suffolk’s Ben Turmel 3-1 in an exciting final, and dedicated his victory to former club-mate Harry Faulkner who died earlier this year.

The girls’ U17 final went to seed, with Berkhamsted’s Gear overcoming a spirited performance by Cambridgeshire’s Tayla Mounter to win 3-0.

The boys’ U15 event, meanwhile, was the largest draw of the weekend and Farooqi saw off all comers to take the title.

He defeated Bedfordshire’s Sam McCoy 3-0 in the final and did not lose a single game throughout the competition.

His younger brother Zan Farooqi was the runner-up in the U11 plate final.
