Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club is continuing to tough it out against some of the top swimming clubs in the Premier Division of the National Arena Swimming League.
The Premier Division includes the top-16 clubs from London and surrounding areas, and this season is the first time that Hemel has featured in the division.
The team travelled to Harlow and, in the face of tough competition, finished eighth on the night but still have a chance to avoid relegation in the final round where double points are on offer.
The Hemel swimmers produced 18 personal best times in Harlow, as well as breaking some long-standing club relay records.
The 15-and-under girls produced a club best time of 1 min 58.79 secs in the 4 x 50m freestyle – the first time a Hemel team has gone under the 1m 59s barrier.
The 6 x 50m freestyle open boys’ relay squad also broke the club record with a time of 2m 35.28s. The swimmers were Freddie Woodcock, Paul Mackie, Conner Reynolds, Sam Pigott, Matt Sherriff and Tom Sherriff.
Three of the club’s senior swimmers – Lois Moore, Alex Hatt and Sam Piggott – travelled home from university to compete for the club as they demonstrated their commitment to the cause.
Swimmers of the gala awards were given to the two relay teams who broke the club best times.
Round three of the league will be held at Hertfordshire Sports Village in Hatfield on Saturday, December 14.
