It was an action-packed weekend for the Camelot U10s with a Development Team visiting Saracens’ Allianz Park on Saturday and two teams taking on Harpenden on Sunday.
The Development Cup at Saracens was a qualifier for the finals in May – a tournament for non-first team players to get the opportunity to play competitive tournament rugby.
It was a fantastic day out for the inexperienced Camelot side as they battled through four very tight group matches.
They started the day by beating Medway 3-2, before losing 3-2 to Marlow and Maldon, but ultimately they scraped through to the finals on try difference thanks to an impressive 4-0 win over Brentwood.
The experience was made all the more memorable when the Development Team were joined by other members of the squad to form the guard of honour as Saracens and London Irish ran out onto the pitch in front of 9,000 fans for an Aviva Premiership match.
With very little rest in between, the next morning Camelot U10s were back in action fielding two equally mixed sides against visitors Harpenden B and C.
On a sunny but very windy morning, Camelot once against demonstrated their progress by winning seven of the eight matches played – scoring 27 tries in the process and conceding just five.
As the season reaches its final third, the fixtures continue to pile up, with two finals at Allianz Park to look forward to, as well as the Tring Festival, County Festival and the big weekend away for the Bournemouth Festival in April.
On Sunday preparations continue with an away friendly at Letchworth.
The squad is still on the lookout for new recruits – please email head coach Dave Martin at firstname.lastname@example.org for information.
