A 5-1 thrashing of Luton Vagrants by the Berkhamsted men’s second team has confirmed their promotion to Division Five South West for next season.
The Vagrants boasted a wealth of talented, aggressive and vocal players, but the young Berko side put in a superb performance to claim the win.
Five of the players in the Berko squad were U16s, and they held their own in a physical encounter.
Dominic Johnson and Oliver Bowman led the line well and were a constant nuisance up front, while Ben Matthews and James Edwards played brilliant cameo roles in midfield – both assisting in the scoring of a number of the goals.
Morris Moorhouse was once again a rock at the back for Berko, putting in the kind of solid defensive performance that saw him named as the side’s Young Player of the Season.
Elsewhere, the young Berko development team went down 6-0 against highly experienced and already promoted Rickmansworth side.
After a flurry of Rickmansworth goals before the interval, a much closer second half saw Berko concede just one further strike while launching sustained periods of pressure on the hosts’ goal.
