AN actress from Hemel swapped the stage for the pool as she enjoyed a lesson with an Olympic medallist.
Samantha Pain met with BT Ambassador and Olympic medallist Leon Taylor as part of an exclusive group who were invited to take part in a diving master class.
Samantha is just one of a hundred people from across the UK who are taking part in the BT Storytellers campaign, to record the story of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Samantha met Leon at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield, and spent the first part of the day learning basic technique on a trampoline, before progressing to the pool for the second half of the session.
Samantha, a keen sports fan, said: “It was great to meet Leon, and having a go in the pool really made me appreciate just how difficult a sport diving really is!
“Looking down from the top of the 10 metre platform was pretty scary, but having Leon take me through it helped me face any fears I had.
“I’m really keen on filming and I’ll use the experience to make a video diary of my day for the BT Storytellers website.”
Taylor is regarded as one of the world’s best platform divers – he has had a long and distinguished career, representing Great Britain from 1992 to 2008.
He won a silver medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games before fulfilling a lifetime’s ambition with a podium finish and an Olympic silver in Athens in 2004.
The Olympian said: “It was great to meet Samantha today and hear all about her plans to creatively document the build-up to the Games.
“It’s exciting that this campaign is bringing people closer to the heart of the action with less than a year to go until London 2012.”
