The Berkhamsted School cricket teams enjoyed a good weekend against rivals Haberdashers’, with the first XI leading the way with an eight-wicket win.

Berkhamsted were soon on their way when Xavier Owen bowled Haberdashers’ opening batsman with the first delivery of the match.

However, it was the spin attack of Max Maciver (3-15) and Ali Walters (5-9) that did the damage, eventually bowling out Haberdashers’ for 86.

Ali Leighton then chipped in with 27 before captain James Hawkes (19 n/o) guided his side home.

The second XI, meanwhile, remain unbeaten after beating Haberdashers’ by seven wickets.

Alex Howe was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-22 as Haberdashers’ were dismissed for 118. Henry Scott (57 n/o) and Angus Twogood (29) then teamed up to knock off the runs with plenty of overs to spare.

However the third XI, who had made an excellent start to the season, will be kicking themselves after losing by a single run.

The match of the day came in the U15A XI match where Berkhamsted chased down 196 to win by eight wickets with overs to spare.

The run chase was thanks mainly to a first century for Harvey Robertson, who smashed 109 not out from only 85 balls.

He was superbly supported by Omar Hattea who hit 65 from 69 balls.

There were also victories for the U15B and C teams, as well as a fine win for the U14As; a match in which Charlie Boyd (67) scored his first half-century for the school.
