BIG crowds were present to watch the Hertfordshire Returning Students Festive 10s competition despite some wintry conditions.
The event had been postponed a number of times after the recent cold snap, so organisers were relieved to see action finally get under way.
10 teams, including Tring, took to the pitches at Old Albanians’ Wollam Playing Fields for the 10-a-side, 10 minute matches and produced some entertaining rugby.
The emphasis for the event was on fun, with beer and food provided for all teams, and the competition was played in a good yet competitive spirit.
Tring were placed into League Group B alongside Bishop’s Stortford, Harpenden, Hitchin and Tring, with Bishop’s Stortford coming out on top.
Stortford’s final group game win over Harpenden set up a clash with Fullerians in the final, and Bishop’s ran out deserved winners.
Following the action, a number of trophies were awarded for stand-out performances over the course of the tournament, and these were presented by Herts RFU president Colin Haslam.
