Dacorum & Tring AC youngsters came out in force to compete in the EYAL Plate final in Ipswich – the plate competition for the clubs finishing the 2014 season in seventh to 12th place.
The U13 boys’ team posted the top result, winning the trophy for their age group thanks to strong performances from Josiah Barker, Jacob Phillips, Samad Ibrahim, Tom Fisher, Ed Hopper, Kristian Imroth, Jack Vera, Daniel Stace and Nico Dowsett.
The U15 boys’ and girls’ teams finished second in their respective groups, with sprint stars Chenna Okoh and Ben Collins winning the A and B 100m and 200m, respectively.
Chenna also posted a new PB of 11.1s in the 100m and took the win in the 300m, while Michael Fryer had an easy win in the pole vault with a jump of 3.40m.
Isabelle Amos and Isobel Alywin won the A and B 800m respectively for the girls, while Amy Thurgood took the pole vault and multi-event specialist Laurette Wenborn was first in the high jump.
The U17 men’s team missed sprint star Dom Ashwell, who spent the day at the UK Olympic bobsleigh team trials.
Despite his absence, the team scored enough medal places to finish third, with Tobi Obu winning the triple jump with a leap of 11.08m.
Jessica O’Sullivan also leaped to first place in the U17 women’s triple jump, but without competitors in a range of events, the team was only able to finish fifth.
The U13 girls had a string of strong finishes, especially in the jumping and throwing events, but could only finish sixth on the day.
Overall, Dacorum & Tring finished fifth out of six clubs in the plate final, which leaves the club 11th overall out of 28 clubs in the league.
