Adult themes and earthy language: Humble Boy is heading to Boxmoor Playhouse

There’s just a week to go before Hemel Hempstead Theatre Company’s next production takes to the stage at the Boxmoor Playhouse.

And it’s definitely a show for grown-ups – the company warns that the language can get a bit earthy, and the show is not really suitable for anyone under 14.

Humble Boy by Charlotte Jones has more than a touch of Hamlet about it, but regular theatre-goers will also recognise the influence of Tom Stoppard and Alan Ayckbourn as well as Shakespeare in this garden-set tale of tangled family relationships, cricket, theoretical astrophysics and bees.

When it was first performed at London’s National Theatre in 2001 it starred Diana Rigg, Simon Russell Beale and Marcia Warren and went on to win a string of awards.

The show opens next Wednesday,September 25 and runs through until Saturday, with performances at 7.45pm.
