First it was a fridge... Tony booked in for a Rex talk about tennis

COMEDIAN and author Tony Hawks will be at the Rex Cinema in Berkhamsted on Friday, June 22, to introduce and talk about the film version of his best-selling book Playing The Moldovans At Tennis.

Tony, right, watching England beating Moldova 4-0 in September 1997, made a bet with his mate – elder statesman of the comedy circuit and a regular Grumpy Old Man Arthur Smith – that he could track down all 11 of the Moldovan football players and beat them at his own preferred sport of tennis.

He spent several weeks in Moldova attempting the feat and what began as a fun road trip became a life-changing journey of understanding.

It’s not the first time one of Tony’s ill-advised bets has become a hit book and then a film – Round Ireland With A Fridge followed the same route.
