THE thing that really makes the Graham Greene Festival stand out each year is its ‘friendliness’, explains its director Yan Christensen.

She says the annual event, which has just been held in Berkhamsted for the 14th time, now has a lot of regulars.

It marks the October 2 birthday of Greene, the author of Brighton Rock, who died aged 86 in 1991.

Greene was born in Berkhamsted and went to Berkhamsted School, where his father was house master.

Festival director Yan said: “We are all amazed that we managed to maintain the quality over the years.

“It is always a very friendly festival, and that came very much to the fore this year.”

The festival lasted for four days until Sunday, October 2.
