Laugh yourself hoarse with Tringe top comedy talent

Tringe - Arthur Smith
Tringe - Arthur Smith

HE’S one of TV’s Grumpy Old Men, a regular on BBC Radios 2 and 4, and an Edinburgh Fringe stalwart - legendary for taking his audience on late-night tours of the city, and next week he’ll be back in Tring for the third time.

An elder statesman of the comedy world Arthur Smith will be entertaining a Court Theatre audience on Thursday, July 7 as part of the Tringe - Tring’s three week comedy extravaganza.

At his last Tring show he said: “Book me in for your Tringe Festival, let’s call it My Evening of Curios.”

He’s committed to booking the other acts so who knows what’s going to happen on the night!

Another highlight in the week’s line-up is controversial act Late Night Gimp Fight.

Not a show for the easily offended you will need to brace yourself for five young men in wrestling masks performing comic skits of questionable taste.

Homoeroticism, jokes about sexual deviance, it’s certainly off-the-wall, undeniably puerile, possible genius. You decide.

Sharing the stage that night will be the Roald Dahl ‘Adult’ Storytellers.

The Brothers Grimm were aptly named to collect Fairy Tales which originally were less Disney and more Tarantino in content.

Roald Dahl knew this, and Matt Stubbings, Clem Silverman and Will Howes know this, and will take Dahl’s hilarious and brilliantly bloodthirsty tales away from the school hall to the sophisticated and discerning ears of the Tringe Festival’s adult audience.

Late Night Gimp Fight and Roald Dahl ‘Adult’ Storytellers will be at the Court Theatre, Tring on Monday, July 11 at 8pm.

Also appearing next week is Perrier Award-winner Dominic Holland, local girl Mary J Bourke and one of last year’s Tringe favourites Chris Ramsey - whose show Aggrophobic went on to sell out at the Edinburgh Festival.

Fosters Award-winner Russell Kane is now sold out but there are still tickets left to see other top shows - Richard Herring, Shazia Mirza, Josh Widdicombe, Wittank.
