ONE of the jazz world’s best kept secrets will play at Hemel’s Old Town Hall at the end of May.

Snake Davis is an incredible saxophonist who has performed with the best in the business during a career which spans three decades.

With a passion for music stemming from his primary school teacher, Mrs Thomas, who encouraged the six year old and nurtured his talents as a boy soprano, it wasn’t until the age of 20 that he picked up his first saxophone. He felt an immediate bond.

After private tuition from a great R & B player he started playing in both punk rock and soul bands.

He finally went off to the Leeds College of Music, funding himself by busking and with gig money.

Here he met and made many of his lifelong friends, gained experience of disciplined ensemble playing, and formed the nine piece soul band Snake Davis and his Alligator Shoes, playing ‘60’s soul music.

After college and several years travelling he joined the soul revue band Zoot and the Roots and started his long career as a session musician.

To date Snake has recorded on more than 400 tracks for over 60 artists and the list keeps growing.

He has recorded with Paul McCartney, George Michael, Ray Charles, Boy George and Lisa Stansfield, to name just a few.

Snake Davis will be at the Old Town Hall Theatre, Hemel Hempstead on Saturday, May 28, 8pm.
