Oh, what a night: Friday’s Chilfest sounds out a summer celebration

A scorching day of sunshine morphed into a sizzling evening of up-and-coming talent at Tring’s first ever pop concert on Friday night, writes Becca Choules.

Chilfest’s first zesty offering was singer, songwriter and rather energetic performer Lemon, whose stage presence got the crowd jumping with her suggestively-named Pussydrop dance move.

Funky electropop trio Mano’s Daughter and teenage popstrel and girl-power advocate Tich followed, before former M People vocalist Heather Small took to the stage with her signature tune Proud, which got the older members of the throng up on their feet and singing along.

As the sun set on Pendley Meadow, cheeky chappies the Loveable Rogues pleased the crowds with their Britain’s Got Talent audition ditty Lovesick and debut single What A Night, before getting young fans singing along to Bruno Mars’ The Lazy Song.

But what the gaggle of teenage girls - and many of their mums - had fought to the front row for was the show’s climax: Little Mix.

After finding fame on The X Factor, Perrie, Jade, Jesy and Leigh-Anne have been catapulted into the stratosphere of pop fame, and no teenage girl’s iPod is complete without a copy of their debut album, DNA.

The girls certainly didn’t disappoint as they performed hits such as the self-penned Change Your Life, uplifting anthem Wings and sassy How Ya Doin.

Now the Chilfest team are gearing up for the 80s revival tonight, which will feature artists such as Midge Ure of Ultravox fame, one-hit wonder Rick Astley and Spandau Ballet crooner Tony Hadley.

Chilfest is the brainchild of local businessman Steve Butcher, who owns Universal Event Productions, and is a celebration of his 15 years in the industry.

The event is set to raise more than £30,000 for local charities Rennie Grove Hospice Care and Aylesbury Women’s Aid.

Reporter David O’Neill and video reporter Natalee Hazelwood will be out and about covering tonight’s concert, so look out for them vox-popping in the crowd!
