Spring date celebrates Rutter’s key compositions

Two acclaimed works by British choral composer John Rutter are on the programme for a spring concert planned by the Hemel Hempstead Singers at St John’s Church, Boxmoor, on Saturday, March 16.

The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, features Rutter’s Requiem, written in memory of the composer’s father, and first performed in Dallas, Texas, in 1985.

The work is now performed in concert halls and churches around the world, and was chosen for many memorial services in the USA after September 11, 2001.

Accompanied by Instrumental Ensemble, the choir will also perform another 20th century choral favourite, Rutter’s Mass of the Children.

Soloists for the evening are soprano Eleanor Hart and bass Leslie Sayers, and the concert will be conducted by the choir’s musical director Simon Pusey.

Refreshments will be served in the interval.

£10 tickets are available from the choir secretary on 01442 386657 or on the door.
