In 1974 tartan posters took over many a teenage girl’s bedroom – they started to wear trousers with tartan strips down the sides and waved similar scarves.
The reason for this? Scotland’s Bay City Rollers.
Led by singer Les McKeown, the band had hit the charts with songs like Shang a Lang, Summer Love Sensation, Give a Little Love and Bye Bye Baby and for a time they dominated the charts here and even had hits in the States.
Now, after a life of ups and downs Les, who became lead singer with the band just a few days after his 18th birthday, is on tour with the Bay City Rollers Show and it comes to the Waterside in Aylesbury next Thursday, September 19.
All the hit songs will be there and audiences are promised a night of fun, nostalgia and a celebration of those hectic days of hit songs, touring, television shows and the behind- the-scenes pandemonium that followed the band everywhere they went.
Les has continued singing and touring throughout the years and says music is in his blood.
The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £18.50 and £20.50 and are available from the box office on 0844 871 7607.
There’s another trip down memory lane on offer at the Alban Arena next week. If you missed the legendary Osmonds when they performed at the Waterside not long back, here they are again – Merrill, Jay and Jimmy are criss-crossing the country with The Osmonds American Jukebox Show and are in St Albans on Saturday, September 21 at 7.30pm.
Along with their brothers they have shifted more than 100 million albums and racked up 59 gold and platinum recordings.
This special show will feature all the hits and more.
Tickets are £28.50, and you can book yours online at www.alban-arena.co.uk or call the box office on 01727 844488
