Tringe latest: Mark Thomas confirmed as Wednesday headliner

There’s bad news and good news for comedy fans feasting themselves during the Tringe Festival, now heading into its second week.

Bad news – rising star Paul Chowdhry, who has been making a name for himself with panel show appearances and a regular slot on Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week, was due to headline at Wednesday’s session at Pendley’s Court Theatre but he won’t be there.

Good news – replacing him at the top of the bill at short notice is Mark Thomas, one of the most challenging comic talents on the circuit.

Although perhaps best known for confrontational political stunts performed with a smile on his face, in recent years he’s been touring his Manifesto show, fielding suggestions up and down the country about how we could make life better all round and turning them into a popular Radio 4 comedy show.

His moving Bravo Figaro set, a tribute to his remarkable and remarkably rude father, was one of the standout shows at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

Also on Wednesday’s bill are double act Peacock & Gamble, who are including Tring in a string of gigs to polish their 2013 Edinburgh show Heart-throbs.
